You may have noticed a change
Dear valued Customer,
To avoid any confusion about our products we need to inform you that Lindsay’s Gourmet Compound Butter may no longer refer to our product as ‘Compound Butter’. Our product will now be called ‘Buttery Compound’. This is the result of a CFIA ruling (please see below). The word ‘Butter’ is the issue. The great news is; rest assured our quality product remains the same with the delicious ingredients and flavours we have provided for you since the beginning. It’s only a word change.
CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) informed us of ‘Improper use of the standard name ‘Butter’. Using the term ‘compound butter’ is not acceptable as the product does not meet the standard for ‘Butter’ as per Food and Drug Regulation 8.08.056 (S). The standard identity of ‘Butter’ must contain at least 80% milk fat.”
Our buttery compounds have been, and always will be created with 100% pure butter with 80% milk fat for the best flavour and texture. When we add our flavouring ingredients; fresh herbs, garlic or citrus, for example, the milk fat content is reduced. All of our flavours are between 73% and 76% milk fat. Therefore, using the word ‘Butter’ does not follow the regulations set out by CFIA.
Compound Butter is not yet recognized as a separate identity here in Canada as it is in Europe and the U.S.A. Perhaps one day, it will be!
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you.
Sincerely,
Lindsay
